The Choirs of St. Paul's Church
St. Paul's Church is an Episcopal Church led by the Rector, the Reverend Martin Field. The music program and choirs are under the general direction of Mr. Edward Arter. He took up the appointment at St. Paul's Church in August of 2003.
The following members of staff assist Mr. Arter: Gussie Blake, Assistant Director, a native of Flint; G. Donald Kaye, Coordinator of Concerts is a native of Pennsylvania; Patrice Shriver, Librarian, a native of Flint.

We Are Seeking Prospective Choristers In The Following Areas
Boys aged 7-11
Requirements: An interest in music, 2nd grade English reading ability, capability to match pitches, and musical poential.
Boys aged 12 and up with unchanged voices
Requirements: Must be able to read music fluently.
Boys with changed voices
Requirements: Must be able to read music fluently.
Girls aged 7-18
Requirement: an interest in music and musical potential. Younger girls must have at least 2nd grade English reading ability and be capable of matching pitches. Older girls must be able to read music and preferable have some choral experience.
Men (for Men/Boys and Men/Girls Choir)
Requirements; must be able to read music fluently and sight sing to a high level.
Adults (Men and Women over age 18)
Requirements: Musically literate singers over the age of eighteen (men and women) with good voice who enjoy singing and who are willing to commit to a regular practice and service schedule.
There is an audition to join. The Director of Music and his assistant will hear everyone sing. For new boys and girls aged 7-11, this will include pitch match tests, vocal exercises, a short piece such as the verse of a hymn and a reading passage (usually from psalm). For older auditionees the requirements will vary slightly depending on age and experience. We are usually looking for a healthy clear voice and musical potential rather than a perfect performance at the audition.
There is no tuition charge for membership in the choirs. Music is provided, as are robes and gloves.
For full members of the choirs the commitment is basically as follows:
Boys Choir: Monday afternoon @ 5:00 p.m. and Sunday Service
Bell Choir: Monday evening @ 7:00 p.m. and Sunday Service
Gospel Choir: Tuesday evening @ 6:30 p.m. and Sunday Service
Girls Choir: Wednesday afternoon @ 5:00 p.m. and Sunday Service
Royal School of Church Music (RSCM): (All) Wednesday evening @ 6:30 p.m.
Chancel Choir: (Men and Women) Thursday evening @ 7:00 p.m. and Sunday Service
